Anonymous Man Spends Almost $50,000 On Generators And Food For Hurricane Victims In Bahamas

As summer transitions into fall, hurricane season is ramping up. In recent weeks, the Bahamas was struck by a “slow and strong” storm. Not only has the island country been devastated but at least 30 deaths were reported. Fortunately, residents are not alone in their recovery efforts. An anonymous man spent nearly $50,000 on generators and food supplies to donate to those affected by the storm.

After hearing about the hurricane, an anonymous shopper visited Costco in Jacksonville, Florida, and spent thousands of dollars on emergency supplies. A photograph of the good samaritan was captured by Alec Sprague.

According to GoodNewsNetwork, Sprague had been buying a generator of his own when he learned that the fellow shopper was purchasing 100 generators for $450 apiece. Reportedly, the man wanted to send the generators to Bahamian communities affected by Hurricane Dorian.

In addition to purchasing the generators, the activist bought a variety of meals and foodstuffs that will be shipped to the island with the generators. In total, he spent $49,285. The goods will be shipped by boat through the Errol Thurston Bahamas Hurricane Relief Fund.

“It’s important that we help each other out. It’s better than just sitting there,” the man told CNN. “You see a need and you fill it.”

On the Facebook post which has since gone viral, Sprague wrote: “All I could do was shake his hand and thank him! There still are good people in the world!”
