An Alternative Translation For The Lord’s Prayer In Aramaic

By Luke Miller / Truth Theory

The Lord’s prayer has been quoted as a condensed version of the Holy Bible, with many claiming that the essence of the whole book is contained in its few verses. It was even recited in Schools in the US and across the globe, until 1962 when the United States Supreme Court ruled that it violated the First Amendment, due to its religious connotations.

The Lord’s prayer is perhaps the most memorized part of The Bible, but is the translation holding the originally intended meaning?

There is a debate about which language the Bible was originally written in, although most agree that it is a form of Hebrew. In Neil Douglas-Klotz book prayers of the cosmos, he makes the argument that it was likely Aramaic. When we look at a language like Aramaic, it differs hugely from the westernized language in the fact that they are far more open for interpretation. Aramaic is written from right to left, as opposed to the western style of left to right. Aramaic words also have many meanings- including literal, numerological and a deeper spiritual meaning, with many of the letters going even deeper still.

It is claimed that The Bible was originally written in this language, then translated to Greek, and then from Greek to English. English is a far more literal language so the words do not have so many layers. Meaning the King James Bible, (which is the most common translation of The Bible) is a less complex language than the original words of the bible.

King James Translation:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

This is a translation of the Lord’s Prayer by Neil Douglas-Klotz, taken from the book Prayers Of The Cosmos:

O Birther! Father-Mother of the Cosmos,

Focus your light within us – make it useful:

Create your reign of unity now –

Your one desire then acts with ours,

As in all light, so in all forms.

Grant what we need each day in bread and insight.

Lose the cords of mistakes binding us,

As we release the strands we hold

Of others guilt.

Don’t let surface things delude us,

But free us from what holds us back.

From you is born all ruling will,

the power and the life to do,

the song that beautifies all,

from age to age it renews.

Truly – power to these statements-

may they be the ground from which all

my actions grow: Amen.
