Perfectly Imperfect: Photos Of Imperfect Dogs Captured By An Award-Winning Photographer

We often come across posts on social media that says ‘Humans are imperfect and we should not seek perfection.’ Our flawed personality or physique is what makes us different, or rather, more human than a photoshopped model on Instagram. But by putting the human label in front – we end up discriminating against another life – animals. Animals are imperfect too, and yet, they are beautiful. All we need to do is just see them the way they are – unique and loving.
That’s the way that Alex Cearns, a Perth-based Award-winning photographer, saw them. She is the founder of Houndstooth studio. She had gone all over the world clicking photos of our furry buddies, capturing their perfections (or imperfections). Her focus, of course, is not just capturing the imperfections of a dog. Rather, she goes on to capture their pre-adoption and post-adoption pictures. It’s a story – a journey of an animal from miserable conditions of streets or an abusive pet center to a loving home. Other photos are just of equally lovely pets. According to Alex, she loves each and every animal – but, animals who are considered ‘different’ holds a special spot in her heart. She has compiled all the photos in her book, Perfect Imperfection: Dog Portraits of Resilience and Love.
Some of her pictures indeed require honorable mention. Let’s talk about Pip, a puppy saved from the intolerable conditions of the Bali streets. Mange made her lose all her fur but she finally found a home among a loving family. The life of the curious puppy transformed and her images stormed the internet. Dotty lost her left eye because of melanoma and the French Bulldog, Raul has partial paralysis. But nothing holds these ‘different’ animals back – they are as able as any other animal and above everything else, happy. All they need is human love. Their smile is portrayed in the wonderful photos of Alex.
Perfect Imperfection: Dog Portraits of Resilience and Love makes these wonderful pictures come to life. Part of her proceeds shall be donated to Australian Animal Cancer Foundation. So, wouldn’t you like to be a part of it?
