Earlier this week, Senator Bernie Sanders announced his intention to run for POTUS in 2020. Just four hours after the announcement was made, supporters donated over $1 million to his campaign.

CBS News reports that Sanders formally joined the presidential race on Tuesday. His goal is to secure the Democratic nomination, then win the presidential election. “We’re gonna win,” he told the show’s co-host, John Dickerson.

This will be Senator Sanders’ second time running for president. Though much has changed since 2016, Sanders’ vow to launch a grassroots movement that will “lay the groundwork for transforming the economic and political life of this country” has not.

Three-and-a-half hours after Sanders’ confirmed his bid to run for president, more than $1 million was raised for his campaign. At 7 AM PT, a senior aide confirmed the sum, adding “And California is just getting up.”

Later this year, a full campaign finance report will be available. Until then, the amount raised cannot be verified. If this news is true, however, Sanders is well ahead of other contenders, including Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Cory Booker.
