Dog That Survived California Wildfire Is Reunited With Family

Nearly a month after the California wildfires a dog was found waiting outside their burnt home by his owner.

Madison caught his owner Andrea Gaylord by surprise when she returned to the remains of their home to find the pup waiting for them. K9 Paw Print Rescue shared the story on Facebook saying: “Madison’s parents were unable to get home to him when the Camp Fire spread. They hoped and prayed he would be OK. When they finally got clearance to go back to the lot where their house once stood….Madison was waiting there for them as if he were protecting his former home. Never give up!”

Truly heartwarming!

Rescue worker Shayla Sullivan, who helped to look after Madison and his brother Miguel, commented on the post saying. “I’m so HAPPY to report that Andrea was allowed to return to her property today and THERE MADISON WAS!!!! He had stayed to protect what was left of his home, and NEVER gave up on his people! I’m so happy I’m crying as I write this! He didn’t give up through the storms or the fire! A LOOOOONG month it must have been for him!”

Sullivan reported that she was able to find Miguel, but despite spotting Madison multiple times, he managed to elude her. At a loss she left food and water for the pup and hoped he would return.

Madison’s owner, Andrea, told ABC10: “Imagine the loyalty of hanging in in the worst of circumstances and being here waiting. It was so emotional.”

Shayla Sullivan put a message of encouragement out to anyone waiting to be reunited with their pet, saying: “I am sure as more people return the fur babies that survived the fire WILL know their people are back!” She continued “Here’s to many more reunions ahead! Keep the hope alive!”

The California fires started on the 8th of November spreading across over 150,000 acres of land before being put out almost a month later on the 6th of December.
