Numerous studies proclaim the benefits of spending time around animals. Not only do furry critters make you less anxious, but they also spur feelings of happiness and joy. But, did you know there is also benefit to cuddling larger creatures, such as cows? Some people are so overjoyed with this wellness trend, they are willing to spend $300 on a 90-minute session.
At Mountain Horse Farm, located in upstate New York, visitors can sign up for the ‘Horse & Cow Experience’. As part of the program, individuals are allowed to spend time with the large barnyard animals. Some people choose to brush or play with the animals while others prefer to simply cuddle them. Cuddling with a cow oftentimes results in decreased blood pressure and higher body temperature, as well “is very relaxing,” according to a statement on Mountain Horse Farm’s website.
Most people aren’t aware that cows and horses are very sensitive and empathetic creatures. Mountain Horse Farm describes this on the website, explaining that cows, in particular, are sensitive to human body language. ‘They will pick up on what’s going on inside and sense if you are happy, sad, feel lost, anxious or are excited, they will respond to that without judgment, ego or agenda,” the website reads.

Because cows are calm, easy-going animals, hanging out with them for a while can decrease anxiety and depression, increase awareness, accelerate healing, and provide comfort. Relaxing with a large barnyard animal can also help people overcome fear and learn self-confidence.
As was mentioned above, the cost of cuddling a docile barnyard animal can be quite expensive. One way to afford the unique treatment is to volunteer at an animal sanctuary or offer to help out at a local farm. You never know, spending time with lovable animals might prove to be a life-changing experience.
