The study suggests that 1 to 8 percent of people are sexually stimulated by intelligence!

What turns you on? Is it a beautiful set of eyes, a strong physique or someone’s ability to make you laugh? According to a new study intelligence is a strong turn on for a small group of people called sapiosexuals.

The new study published in Science Direct supports the idea that some people are sexually attracted to the intellect of someone else.

The study from the University of Western Australia observed 383 students. They filled out a questionnaire which included questions on intelligence, and if it was a train they found sexually stimulating. There was also other questions on other areas of love and sexuality so as not to just focus on intelligence as a quality.

Lead researcher Gilles Gignac said “We found that sapiosexuality can be measured psychometrically and that between 1 percent and 8 percent of relatively young people (18 to 35) may be sapiosexuals,” he continued “However, interestingly, how intelligent a person is (measured with an actual IQ test) does not appear to predict the degree to which people identify themselves as a sapiosexual.”

According to the study the other leading traits people search for in relationships are- an exciting personality and someone who is easy-going. At the top of the list was kindness and understanding, with intelligence taking the second spot.

While people were drawn to those with a high IQ level, those who scored higher than 99 percent of the population were seen as less desirable. The perfect level of intelligence was around the 90th percentile, so those smarter (according to the IQ test) than 90% of the population.

The team also shared that it is not uncommon for people to be attracted to the perks that come with intelligence, such as a high paid job and the ability to make better decisions.
