Plant-based eaters, rejoice! This January, TGI Fridays will add the infamous ‘Beyond Burger’ to its menu. In total, more than 465 of the chain’s restaurants will incorporate the patty into their menu. Perhaps as a result of this development, more people may be swayed to adopted cruelty-free, plant-based diets.

Explained Stephanie Perdue, TGI Fridays chief marketing officer: “Fridays is constantly innovating to appeal to an array of tastes and lifestyles, which includes offering more options for vegetarians and meat-lovers alike. We tested many concepts and The Beyond Burger was far and away the favorite plant-based burger among both our guests and chefs, making it the ideal addition to our popular Burger Bar.”

Added Ethan Brown, the CEO of Beyond Meat: “From the onset, the Beyond Burger has been about delivering delicious, satiating, center of the plate protein for the entire family to enjoy. I’m elated to see this vision come to fruition with TGI Fridays.”

The vegan burger is a hot commodity for several reasons. To begin with, it “bleeds” beet blood when you cook it. This makes it appear similar to a beef or turkey burger, which makes the transition to eating plant-based products easier — at least, for those who are devout carnivores.

Secondly, each Beyond Burger patty boasts a whopping 20 grams of plant-based pea protein. The patty is also popular because it is soy and gluten-free, and was made without genetically modified (GMO) ingredients.

“Our products are so good there’s no reason to consider it a sacrifice,” Brown told Fast Company.
