Brilliant Map And 8-Minute Video Show How Every Aspect Of Physics Is Related

Physics is a broad field and, as a result, it can be complicated to comprehend. Fortunately for us all, YouTuber Dominic Walliman took the time to create a brilliant poster which reveals how the many branches of physics link together.

From classical physics to dark matter to Einstein’s relativity and quantum physics, the map makes the branches of physics easier to understand. There’s even a bit of philosophy thrown in! View it below:

For those who are still scratching their heads at the poster, don’t worry. Walliman also took the time to create a delightful, 8-minute video. The animation takes you through the map step by step, and also summarized the history of physics.

As Science Alert reports, the video begins by reviewing Newton’s falling apple, leading to the discovery of classical physics. As it progresses, the viewer is introduced to black holes and scientists’ theories on being able to unify gravity with quantum mechanics.

The video also shows that there is a gaping “chasm of ignorance” physicists need to fill before the Universe will ever truly be understood (if that is even possible). This realm of the “unknown” includes topics such as dark matter and energy. Scientists understand them in theory, but they have yet to be observed directly or explained.

What is clear is that we, as a species, have a lot more to learn about physics and the universe we live in.
