Mainstream music has a narrative which for the most part glorifies misogyny, divides humanity and encourages consumerism. There is a lot more of a connection between the message shared and record sales than the talent of artists and record sales.
All revolutionary acts have had music that accompanies it- the most recent examples are that of the 60s and 70s with the beatles and the 70s and 80s with Bob Marley. Some mainstream hip hop also managed to break the conventional sound, but a lot of it also blurred the lines between connection and division.
Currently if you look to MTV or the charts for music you will rarely find any that encourages revolution or the uprising of humanity, however, this does not mean it is nonexistent.
