What’s the biggest difference between purebred animals and so-called mutts? The papers that accompany them. Other than that, cats and dogs are simply creatures that desire to be loved. The Brazilian rescue organization Quatro Patinhas (or “Four Paws”) proved this to be true in 2015 when it secretly stocked a pet shop with rescue animals.
As The Dodo reports, activists involved with Four Paws set up hidden cameras to capture people’s reactions to the sweet puppies and kittens. What may be surprising to some is that nobody noticed the difference between the shelter animals and the pet store critters.
“There’s no difference if a pet is purebred or not,” said Christianne Duarte Garoiu, president of Quatro Patinhas.”What really matters is the love that will arise there.”
Families that were present learned a valuable lesson and that is, shelter pets are just as adorable and deserving of love as any other animal.

If you’re still considering “shopping” rather than “adopting,” consider this: most canines that end up in pet stores come from commercial dog-breeding facilities called “puppy mills.” At such facilities, profit is placed above the health and welfare of the animals.
It’s estimated that every year in America, 2.11 million dogs are sold that originated from puppy mills. At the same time, 3 million are killed in shelters because the facilities lack capacity and there aren’t enough adoptive homes.
In puppy mills, female dogs tend to be bred at every opportunity. Rarely do they receive recovery time and when the females can no longer reproduce, they are killed. If you desire to learn more about the atrocities of puppy mills, click here.
The grand takeaway from this experiment should be that it is always better to visit a local shelter and give a homeless cat or dog a furrever home. You can also help end the puppy mill trade by educating friends and family members on the topic.
