Some people are willing to go to extreme lengths to avoid the repercussions of their actions. Unfortunately, those kinds of people don’t care who they hurt in the process. Such is the story of a Chinese woman, whose surname is Zeng, who was convicted for corruption in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region.

As Hindustan Times reports, Zeng was sentenced to life imprisonment but was able to evade prison for a decade by becoming pregnant thirteen times within ten years. She actually claimed to be pregnant 14 times, but one was proven to be false. The remaining 13 were true, however.

On October 17,  2005, she was sentenced to life imprisonment by Urumqi Intermediate People’s Court. Because she was pregnant at the time, however, she was placed on probation. When Zeng knew she would soon be placed in prison at a later date, she became pregnant again. After receiving probation a second time, she underwent an abortion.

The following pregnancies afterward, Zeng committed the same scheme. She would receive probation then have an abortion. After honing in on her tactic of evasion, the Municipal Bureau of Justice resubmitted the suggestion to put her in prison. Finally, at age 39, she has started serving her sentence.
