Is your clean laundry piling up? Don’t despair. A relatively new invention dubbed “Your laundry folding friend,” or Foldimate, uses a conveyer belt, an adjustable tray and several robotic arms to expertly fold clothes in under one minute.
Says the Foldimate website:
“FoldiMate is a robotic clothes and laundry folding machine, the only way it knows to fold is like an expert. Every time. FoldiMate Family, our home targeted robotic laundry folder, will quickly become a must have in every household around the world.”
32 inches tall, 28 inches wide and 65 pounds, Foldimate fits in most laundry rooms and can be easily wheeled to other locations. According to the Daily Mail, the invention was designed to sit on top of the washer, dryer or a sturdy table. An array of buttons can be pushed to instruct the machine on what type(s) of garments need to be folded.
“We developed a patented robotic method to fold clothes that reduces the machine size by a 1/3rd or less, while keeping the target price point affordable to consumers and businesses alike (less than 1/5th of our direct competitor’s price),” explained the company.
Reportedly, it takes about 10 seconds to fold most items and an extra 20 to 30 to steam wrinkles out. On average, the rack can hold about 15 to 20 pieces at a time. Unfortunately, towels, undergarments and socks cannot yet be folded by the Foldimate.
The machine initially went on the market in 2014. In 2016, however, the company designed a more family friendly version. If you’d like to invest in a Foldimate, they are presently being sold for $700 to $850.
