On Thursday, Brits will head to the polls and vote for either Theresa May or Jeremy Corbyn to become the new Prime Minister. If you’re still undecided on who to support, perhaps the opinion of the smartest man in the world — Stephen Hawking — will provide some direction.
When discussing the upcoming election, the astrophysicist candidly expressed his opinion that Theresa May as leader would be a disaster for public services. After a meeting with Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner, Hawking stated:
“I’m voting Labour because another five years of Conservative government would be a disaster for the NHS, the police and other public services.”
Hawking’s endorsement came as a surprise to many as he previously called Corbyn a “disaster,” but for very different reasons.
“I regard Corbyn as a disaster,” said Hawking. “His heart is in the right place and many of his policies are sound, but he has allowed himself to be portrayed as a left wing extremist.”
“I think he should step down for the sake of the party,” he added.
Reportedly, Hawking has supported Labour for much of his life and was an ally of Mr. Zeichner, a local Cambridge candidate, during the 2015 election.
If the smartest man in the world supports Jeremy Corbyn, should the rest of us?
