After announcing on Twitter that orders for his revolutionary solar roof hardware were available for order, Elon Musk then went on to state that the solar roofs have a warranty of infinity. The information, that was released last week on the Tesla website, states that the tiles are guaranteed essentially forever, explaining that “Glass solar tiles are so durable they are warrantied for the lifetime of your house, or infinity, whichever comes first.”
The tiles can now be ordered from most countries around the world, with delivery beginning in the United States near the end of the year, whilst deliveries for those consumers outside the US will take place during next year. According to recent reports, the surprising warranty strengthens Musk’s statements that the solar roofs are cheaper than traditional roofs due to cost efficiency over time.
Further to the warranty and efficiency of the solar roofs, the website has added that combining additional energy solutions with the new installation of a solar roof can further cut down on energy bills for the household. The site claims that “with an integrated Powerwall battery, energy collected during the day is stored and made available any time, effectively turning your home into a personal utility.”
With these elements, Tesla is allowing the availability of a “completely integrated home energy experience”. Previous studies by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have suggested that “25 percent of the United States’ energy needs could be filled by rooftop solar installations alone”, and whilst not every rooftop is ideal for full solar paneling, each household can be running on solar power using new developing technology.
