The remains of 5 dinosaur egg fossils have been found underground in a construction site in China.
The eggs which are estimated to be 70 million years old are thought to be from the Cretaceous period. The eggs were found at around 8 metres (26 feet) and measure approximately 13–14 centimetres (5.1-5.5 inches) in diameter.
Researcher Qiu Licheng from Guangdong’s Archaeological Institute has said “We found five eggs: three were destroyed, but they are still visible,” she continued “The other two have their imprints on the stone. The eggs were round in shape, belonging to phytophagous [plant-eating] dinosaurs.”
Until the data has been peer-reviewed the team cannot say with any certainty how old the eggs are or which species they come from. The video below taken from RT shows part of the excavation process:
Currently the eggs are being examined at a local museum, and we will need to wait and see what these studies unearth before making any concrete conclusions.
