Instagram Videos Show Students Abusing Animals Whilst Drunk During Spring Break

An Instagram account that was set up to document college life during spring break has uncovered animal abuse that the students are conducting. Earlier this year, a blog dedicated to college life called Total Frat Move dedicated their Instagram account solely to show what typically occurs during spring break. But buried between images of bongs and alcohol fuelled nonsense are videos which include a clip titled “The shark shotgun”, which involves a young man using the teeth of a beached shark to open his can of beer before he drinks it.

Whilst it is unclear whether the shark was found dead or alive on the beach, a fishing line and hook that is connected to the shark’s mouth can clearly be seen in the video, which suggests that the fish was reeled in from its home in the sea. Since being published on the Instagram account, the video has now been viewed more than 590,000 times within just a few days, and has consequently probed an array of comments condemning the video for animal abuse.

Similarly, another video shows a man pouring a drink into a large starfish, before proceeding to attempt to drink the liquid from the starfish’s leg. Following this is yet another animal abuse video where a man catches a live seabird and stomps around the beach and into a room whilst restraining the seabird in his grip as it struggles to get away. The numerous videos have been met with a mix of comments, and whilst some are amused by the drunken antics of these students, many others are simply appalled by the behaviour that they are conducting on the innocent animals.

One Instagram user wrote on the seabird video, “That is not cool dude 🙁 Leave the bird alone, it’s not a toy”, whilst another said, “Somebody call [PETA].” It remains to be quite disturbing to see that these may be “normal” occurrences by irresponsible students during spring break.
