Actor and well-known animal lover Tom Hardy has shown his true wildlife intentions by appearing in a new advert which is helping to clamp down on bad dog owners. The advert, put together by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), displays a whole host of celebrities with clips of dogs being neglected and chained up outside in freezing temperatures.

The one and a half minute advert comes at a time when animal rights activists are coming together to campaign against the terrible treatment of all animals. Other stars in the advert include Casey Affleck, Priyanka Chopra, rapper D.R.A.M and reality star Courtney Stodden, who all lend their voices in the advert.

The advert shows a dog sat in the snow outside as Hardy asks, “When you first got me, did you know that you were going to chain me up and leave me outside? Even in the cold and snow?” Following this, the footage cuts to a helpless dog stood in a puddle as actor Affleck asks, “Did you know that you would leave me to fend for myself, even when it was pouring down rain and I had no way of keeping dry?” Before Priyanka, who stars in TV show Quantico, says, “Did you know that as I got old and stiff and achy, and I couldn’t get comfortable no matter how hard I tried… you would let me suffer, alone and in pain?”

The emotion grabbing clip concludes with Hardy again appearing on the screen whilst asking, “If you did, then why did you get me at all?” The recent reports state that the dogs that are used were filmed near the Sam Simon Center, PETA’s headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia. PETA has stated that their goal is that the video will “encourage others to treat their dogs like family by never leaving them chained up outside to suffer in the cold, hungry and alone.”

Tom Hardy seemed to be a good figure to get through to people about this serious issue, after showing a softer side reading the bedtime story to children on CBeebies with a dog on his lap, as well as appearing in Paul O’Grady: For The Love of Dogs back in 2015.
