With bonfire night approaching this weekend, we’re all ready and prepared for the bright and beautiful lights and sizzling sounds of fireworks erupting in back gardens and designated parks.

However, something that we don’t usually consider whilst we are enjoying the colourful explosions is our pets and resident animals who don’t quite feel the same as us about the beautiful eruptions of fire.

The loud and bright explosions that are caused by fireworks have been known to give some domestic pets heart problems, nausea, tremors, debilitating fears and even light-headedness.

You will notice a change in your pet’s behaviour during firework displays as, with their increased hearing sense, they are often confused as to where the loud noises are coming from, which can even result in them being in road accidents when running away.

However, like everything, something positive can always be done if we put our minds to it. And that is exactly what the people in the town of Collecchio in the province of Parma, Italy have done!

The local government of the town has recently introduced a new legislation which forces citizens to use silent fireworks to respect the animal community and thereby reduce any stress that the original fireworks would normally cause them.

Made by Setti Fireworks, the innovative company make fireworks which produce a stunning firework display show, but without the deafening sounds normally associated with a firework display.

This Italian town has taken the first step in respecting our animal’s and even consequently saving their lives by eliminating the risk of our pets running away in fear.

Let’s hope the rest of the world can take note of this pioneering plan and by next bonfire night many other towns and countries will be doing the same.

(Make sure you take extra precaution this Bonfire Night and keep your pets inside whilst firework displays are taking place to ensure their safety).
