Over 29 million people in the United States alone have diabetes, with one in four of those not even knowing that they have the condition.
While it is argued if pre diabetes is even a real thing and maybe just a way for pharmaceutical companies to push new drug on patients, there are still lots of people on the verge of becoming diabetic due to lifestyle choices and some studies conclude that it could be as many as half of the American population that will have diabetes by 2020.
With rapidly rising medical costs associated with this disease and very little chance of big pharma making effective treatment available, it was a breath of fresh air to hear the story of 6 people (one with type 1 diabetes) who were able to reverse their symptoms in just 30 days of good nutrition.
It is insane that these findings are not being studied on a wider scale! Why are we not looking for tailored solutions based on how people got diabetes in the first place, instead of looking for a blanket solution to a problem that is going to differ hugely on a case by case basis?
This study is small and it is hard to draw a complete conclusion as to how this would work on a mass level, but one thing that’s for certain- diabetes is getting worse, as our diets get more processed and unnatural.
More exploration needs to be done into options like this, but also there should be more accountability and transparency when it comes to labelling food. It should also be mandatory that people have all the facts and know about the addictive nature of some foods, instead of hiding behind their favourite line- “It is okay in moderation.”
The fact is most things are okay in moderation- including alcohol, drugs and gambling, the problem is some things, like food and the other things I just mentioned are hard to do in moderation and for this reason there needs to be more disclosure.
So how do you feel about diabetes? Do you or anyone you know have diabetes? Let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment below.
